What Is Post-Industrial Resin (PIR)?
Post-Industrial Resin (PIR) recaptures usable plastic material from the manufacturing process and puts it back into circulation as an alternative to using 100% virgin resin.
Post-Industrial Resin (PIR) is recycled plastic material recovered from the manufacturing process before it reaches the consumer.
At M&M Industries, this can include manufacturing material such as rejected pails, lids, runners, handles, tampers, triggers, and molding remnants. Instead of allowing usable material to go to waste, it can be collected, processed, and put back into circulation.
For qualifying applications, PIR can be strategically blended with virgin resin to help reduce virgin resin usage while maintaining the performance requirements of the package.
PIR can also provide benefits related to material costs, resin supply, waste reduction, and sustainability goals.
